Boys & Girls Club, Tipmont Wintek Partner on Innovative After-School Project

Tipmont Wintek has partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Lafayette to support the technology needs of Student Learning Recovery, an innovative after-school educational program that will begin in August.

“About 80% of the youth we serve are two grade levels behind in math and reading,” says Barry Richard, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Lafayette. “Student Learning Recovery will pinpoint where these kids need assistance and give them the progress they need. This is really the first program of its kind offered at a Boys & Girls Club, so we’re eager to demonstrate everything we can achieve. We’re thankful for the expertise and assistance Tipmont Wintek has provided us in our mission.”

Student Learning Recovery was funded through nearly $420,000 in grants from the Indiana Department of Education. Three supervising teachers will assess current education levels of participating Boys & Girls Club members. They will then design a curriculum distinct from schools’ curriculums to keep kids engaged and bridge identified gaps.

The technology components provided by Tipmont Wintek are integral to Student Learning Recovery. The company has provided 72 Chromebooks that meet federal standards for content filtering, three interactive smartboards with video-conferencing capabilities, and racks for secure storage and charging. Tipmont Wintek also has upgraded network access at both Lafayette locations of the Boys & Girls Club and will manage that network for the next five years.

“A young person’s experience with educational technology is only effective if it is reliable, uncomplicated, stable and safe,” says Ron Holcomb, president and CEO of Tipmont Wintek. “We’re honored to meet these needs for the Boys & Girls Club of Lafayette and excited to support this community partnership for years to come.”
