Always Something Brewing

Lafayette Brewing Company was slinging craft beers before it was the cool thing, and they’ve got the stats to back it up. They were Indiana’s first brewery to receive a small-brewers permit (nearly 30 years ago) and they’re currently the state’s second-oldest operating brewery.

Like any brewpub, beer is LBC’s bread and butter. Its actual bread and butter, along with the rest of its quirky and bountiful menu, is equally impressive. The fare is heavy on sandwiches, as expected. However, you can stretch LBC’s Cobb salad (served on a small hubcap-sized platter) across a few delicious meals. You can build your own burger with a slew of options, from an Angus beef, bison or plant-based Beyond patty to premium add-ons like fresh avocado or broken-yolk eggs.

A non-burger favorite is the Chicken Meltdown, pairing grilled chicken with smoked gouda, bacon and chipotle ranch on perfectly toasted corn-jalapeño sandwich bread. Keep an eye on rotating specials, too, like the New Orleans-Style Grilled Cheese, which spiffs up the classic with cheddar spread, sliced andouille sausage and caramelized onions. While LBC’s Brewpub Chips offer a crisp complementary crunch, the Cajun-seasoned fries are worth the upgrade.

In dwindling days of decent weather, make time on LBC’s patio for a pint or primo pub fare.
