There are numerous ways in which Tipmont has anticipated what’s next in the world of energy transformation.
High-Speed Rural Internet
Tipmont Fiber
Since Tipmont’s fiber build project commenced in the spring of 2019, we have connected thousands of fiber internet customers across our electric service territory.
Thanks to grant funding from multiple sources, we’ve shaved years from the original construction schedule. That means everyone in Tipmont’s service territory will now have access to broadband by the end of 2024.
In addition to meeting a critical need for Tipmont members, our fiber-optic network has become a backbone for the energy transformation strategies of today and tomorrow.
Fiber is an essential part of Tipmont’s evolution toward a smart grid that can offer you the most valuable benefits of energy transformation. A smart grid incorporates digital communication technologies into the infrastructure of traditional power grids.
For Tipmont, the centerpiece of this is our advanced metering infrastructure project, through which we will complete smart-meter upgrades across our service territory by the end of 2026.
Tipmont’s fiber network includes several other electric service benefits:
Additional benefits
Tipmont fiber doesn’t just connect you to far-away family members, endless entertainment options and opportunities to build your future. It puts you and your cooperative at the leading edge of energy transformation and solidly prepares us all for evolutions in the energy industry.
- Monitoring and managing energy distribution, flow and efficiency in real time
- Improved ability to integrate renewable energy sources like solar or wind power into the overall power portfolio
- Gathering, leveraging and acting on reliable data to make informed, strategic decisions for operations and efficiency
- Remotely monitoring equipment performance to proactively diagnose issues with energy delivery
GRID MODERNIZATION
Tipmont is modernizing our electric grid with smart meters from Landis+Gyr.
Tipmont’s existing outage management system only communicates with substations and large devices in the field.
The new meters use a leading-edge technology called “Last Gasp,” which notifies Tipmont if your power goes out and helps pinpoint affected areas.
Rather than spend time patrolling for problems, Tipmont line crews can more quickly restore your service.
New Energy Technologies
Distributed Energy Resources
Integrating renewable energy into existing grid infrastructure will require the industry to rethink longstanding technologies.
Distributed Energy Resources (DERs) are small-scale, decentralized technologies that can generate and store energy close to the point of energy consumption. These include solar, wind, geothermal and electric-vehicle (EV) sources.
As energy demand grows, DERs add stability and flexibility to the overall electric grid. Today, Tipmont is studying how to help our members take advantage of DER opportunities that best meet their needs.
- Community Solar
The Tipmont Community Solar program is a quick, easy and affordable way to generate solar power to use in your home and help usher in a new era of clean, renewable energy.
- CIDER Grant
In late 2023, Tipmont became one of only five cooperatives nationwide to receive federal grant funding from the Community-Integrated Distributed Energy Resilience (CIDER) program.
- Member Success Stories
The involvement and foresight of Tipmont members are essential to an effective outcome. even the smallest shifts in usage and technology can make a meaningful difference.
