Pay as you go power
Prepaid Billing
Traditional electric service is billed at the end of each month based on how much energy you have used. Prepaid billing offers more control over your usage, helping you more effectively manage your energy costs.
Similar to buying gasoline for your car, Tipmont’s prepaid billing helps you control your usage and costs by paying into your electric account on your schedule.
Contact us today to get started with prepaid billing. A minimum credit of $50 is required.

Frequently Asked Questions
Prepaid billing offers a way to manage energy costs by paying for electricity before you use it rather than receiving a bill at the end of the month.
While this model has ample benefits, it also comes with its own set of challenges. These frequently asked questions will to help you determine if prepaid billing is the right choice for you.
Tipmont’s prepaid billing program requires only a minimum credit of $50 rather than the $200 minimum deposit required for traditional billing. It can also be a good option for those who would prefer to contribute a certain fixed amount each day, week or month to pay for Tipmont electric service.
Members who use prepaid billing must manage their usage and account balance more frequently to ensure they maintain enough money to pay for electric service. There is no grace period before service disconnection.
This is why Tipmont recommends contributing as much as is comfortable and within your means.
However, it may not be as convenient for members who don’t use a smartphone or text messaging, as they may not be able to receive timely low-balance notifications from Tipmont’s SmartHub.
Finally, if your energy needs tend to fluctuate often, managing prepaid billing can be very time-intensive and challenging.
You must call 800-726-3953 or visit our Linden office in person to speak with a Tipmont Member Service Representative. They will confirm your meter can accommodate prepaid billing (most can) and take a minimum deposit of $50.
Generally, Tipmont sees an average household use about $7 of power a day. At that rate of usage, the $50 minimum deposit will only last one week. To ensure continuity of service, Tipmont encourages prepaid billing users to deposit as much as is comfortable and within their means. This also helps avoid more frequent monitoring and management of usage / account balance.
Prepaid billing deducts from your credit balance to pay for the previous day’s service between noon and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Deductions are not made on Saturdays, Sundays or Tipmont-observed holidays.
On Mondays and days following Tipmont-observed holidays, the Prepay Billing deduction will be larger – as it accounts for your electric usage on all days since the last deduction
Tipmont advises using a debit card connected to a bank for prepaid billing. If a payment from a checking account is declined, Tipmont charges a $20 return fee.
