Tech Tips: Solve Streaming Issues with a Simple Reboot

Whenever you need internet support, our local experts at Tipmont are ready to help. But we also want to share some proactive tips and best practices to help keep you streaming.

If a member reaches out for help from experts at our Network Operations Center, odds are good that it has something to do with streaming. Issues with streaming or a smart TV are far and away the number-one issue we help troubleshoot.

We are always happy to help when you reach out. But you can usually resolve most streaming issues on your own with one simple step.

When you stream a movie or a series, you are using either a smart TV (a TV connected to your internet service) or a streaming device (like a Roku) connected to the internet.

Should you encounter an issue with streaming, reboot your smart TV or streaming device by unplugging its power cord from the outlet for 15 seconds and plugging it back in. Make sure you unplug from the outlet and not just from the back of the device.

You work hard and deserve a break every so often. So does your smart TV or streaming device. Rebooting helps to clear out issues with unresponsive services, login trouble and more.

You might wonder: Doesn’t a reboot happen when I turn the TV off? Turning off your TV when it’s not in use is a good idea for many reasons, but it does not reboot the TV. It just puts it into sleep mode. And if you use a Roku or other streaming device, those are essentially always on, so reboots are critical.

Set a schedule to reboot your smart TV or streaming device every month, and you’ll be able to resolve most issues before they interrupt your viewing!

If you have questions on this, or another internet issue, feel free to call us at 800-726-3953, email help@tipmont.com or start a chat. You will always reach a live person from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
