Eight tips to stay cool and save on energy use

Summer is here, and while that means enjoying more outdoor activities, it also means high temperatures that send us indoors over the next couple of months.

Here are some tips to stay cool and save money on your Tipmont energy bill:

  • Close your blinds and drapes during the day to keep out heat.
  • Consider setting a slightly higher temperature on your thermostat.
  • Set higher temperatures while you’re away or program a smart thermostat to do so.
  • Feel hot? Try a fan first! Fans also supplement central air set to higher temperatures.
  • Wash your dishes and clothes at night to cut down on creating excess heat in the home.
  • Turn off lights and ceiling fans when leaving a room.
  • Stay on top of maintenance by regularly cleaning HVAC vents and changing filters.
  • Limit opening your windows and doors on hot days unless you’re ventilating a space.
