A Purdue partnership for tomorrow’s energy leaders

For the second year in a row, Tipmont REMC co-sponsored The Energy Academy at Purdue, a week-long program for high-achieving students and outstanding science teachers. These partnerships are crucial to preparing tomorrow’s energy leaders as they will be entering a world even more complex than today’s.

According to the Academy’s website, “By 2030, the global demand for energy will have increased by 50% based on the predicted human population increase. A secure energy future, both in the United States and abroad, needs solutions that come from a diverse energy portfolio.”

On Thursday, June 23, we welcomed the 80 or so students and teachers to our headquarters in Linden for a hands-on learning experience with our Community Solar array, the first of its kind in Indiana. Tipmont’s Energy Manager Jason Monroe answered questions for nearly an hour in the baking sun.

The program covers STEM-related energy topics include areas of power generation, transportation, power transmission, energy efficiency and new research frontiers. If you know a high school sophomore or junior or a STEM teacher who would benefit from this program next summer, please encourage them to visit purdue.edu/discoverypark/energy/energyacademy/.
