Tipmont student Abbey Allen Named to National Youth Leadership Council

Abbey Allen of West Lafayette, Ind., will participate in the Youth Leadership Council (YLC) of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). She was selected to represent the state from the 75 Indiana student delegates who participated in the June Indiana Electric Cooperative Youth Tour to Washington, D.C.

Allen will attend the NRECA Annual Meeting, which will take place in March 2024 in San Antonio, TX. There, she will network with other YLC delegates from across the country, participate in the opening assembly and Parade of States, and volunteer, gaining a broader understanding of electric cooperatives. She will also compete for the Council’s National Youth Spokesperson position and participate in virtual meetings with other YLC delegates throughout the year.

“Abbey has been given a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to gain invaluable experience alongside her peers from electric cooperatives across the country,” said Ron Holcomb, President and CEO of Tipmont. “She will develop a greater understanding of the political system and electric cooperatives, as well as essential leadership skills.”

Allen will also speak at Indiana Electric Cooperatives’ annual meeting in December, which will be held in Indianapolis.

Allen is the daughter of Robert and Kelly Allen of West Lafayette and will be a senior at Harrison High School in West Lafayette next year.
