Indiana Electric Cooperatives to Host Page Day

Indiana Electric Cooperative Page Day 2017

On Monday, Jan. 25, the Indiana General Assembly will host Indiana Electric Cooperative Page Day.

The day will feature a tour of the governoroffice and the Indiana Statehouse, as well as the opportunity to meet the students’ state representative. Pages will also observe floor sessions, learn about current legislation, and assist staff members.

“Serving as a page gives young people a unique opportunity to participate in state government,” explained Rob Ford, Communication Director of Tipmont REMC. “Experiencing the process and the heart of state government brings to life many of the lessons students learn in the classroom. Seeing it firsthand takes it to the next level.”

Students between the ages of 13-18 who are affiliated with Tipmont REMC are eligible to participate. To apply visit bit.ly/1DNAJQE. The application deadline is Jan. 18.

About Page Day

All applicants must be between the ages of 13 and 18 and have adequate transportation to and from the Statehouse. If students have participated in previous programs they are eligible to reapply each year. Registration will begin at the Indiana Statehouse promptly at 8:30 a.m. and the program will dismiss at 3:30 p.m. Homeschooled students are also eligible to apply. A comprehensive schedule for the day will be set as the program date approaches based on the volume of applicants. Lunch will be provided by Indiana Electric Cooperatives.

Program highlights include visits to the House and Senate chambers, the Supreme Court and the governor’s office. Students will have the opportunity to observe the legislative session directly from the floor of the House or Senate, listen to debates on important policy issues, and possibly even witness votes depending on the legislative schedule.
