Need to add a name to your Tipmont membership?
Here are some things to know that can help make it easy!
Why would I add a name to my Tipmont membership?
There are many reasons to add a second name to a Tipmont membership.
Maybe you’re starting the next phase of your life with a new spouse, welcoming a roommate to your home, or even helping out an adult-aged son or daughter.
Your Tipmont membership can include up to two names. Each person has equal billing responsibility and access to the account, including payment settings and arrangements.
The only time you can’t add a name to a Tipmont membership is if:
- The new person is under 18 years of age.
- The new person has an unpaid balance on another Tipmont membership.
A note: Adding a secondary user to your Tipmont SmartHub portal is not the same as adding a name to your membership.
How do I add a name to my Tipmont membership?
Because Tipmont is a not-for-profit electric cooperative with capital credits tied to each membership, we require completion of several documents to add a name.
To request documents to add a name to your membership, please call 800-726-3953, ext. 2, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday or email memberservice@tipmont.com.
Tipmont can then email, mail or fax to you the required documents to complete, sign and return.
Once we receive completed paperwork, we’ll add the new name within 30 days.
A note: If our Member Service team can’t validate or verify the new person’s Social Security number, that person can visit our Linden office to present a United States-issued photo ID.
What if I need to remove a name from my Tipmont membership?
Removing a name from your Tipmont membership also requires completion of several documents.
In the event of a removal request, Tipmont does not inquire about litigation, property ownership or disputes between parties.
To request documents to remove a name from your Tipmont membership, please call 800-726-3953, ext. 2, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday or email memberservice@tipmont.com.
Tipmont can then email, mail or fax to you the required documents to complete, sign and return.
Once we receive completed paperwork, we’ll remove the name within 30 days.
What if I need power of attorney or beneficiary status on a Tipmont membership?
Different documentation is required if you’re requesting power of attorney or beneficiary status on a Tipmont membership.
If you have power of attorney status on a Tipmont membership, you’ll have account access but you’re not considered responsible for billing.
To request documents concerning power of attorney or beneficiary status, please call 800-726-3953, ext. 2, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday or email memberservice@tipmont.com.
Tipmont can then email, mail or fax to you the required documents to complete, sign and return.
Once we receive completed paperwork, we’ll update membership status within 30 days.
