Great Stewardship Grows on Trees

Tipmont REMC is honored to receive membership for 2022 in Tree Line USA, a national program recognizing utilities for best practices to protect and preserve America’s urban forests.

This is the sixth straight year Tipmont has earned membership in the program — one of only six Indiana utilities to receive recognition, as well as the state’s first and still only co-op. The program is facilitated through a partnership between the Arbor Day Foundation and the National Association of State Foresters

Tree Line USA honors utilities that prioritize the coexistence of safe, reliable electricity delivery and maintenance of healthy community trees. Properly pruned and maintained trees improve root systems and prevent structural weakness — improving service reliability by reducing the risk of downed trees.

“Receiving this designation is an honor for all of us at Tipmont,” says Eric Summerfield, right-of-way maintenance coordinator for Tipmont. “Providing security, comfort, and convenience to the communities that we serve means being good stewards of tree health, and we’re glad our efforts are making a difference.”

Tipmont earned its Tree Line USA designation by meeting five program standards: quality tree care; annual worker training; tree planting and public education; formal tree-based energy conservation; and sponsorship of, or participation in, an Arbor Day celebration.
