This helps you save money and helps Tipmont preserve infrastructure through which we serve your homes, businesses, schools and farms. On the edge of another winter season with potential for extreme events, that’s an especially important notion to remember.
The United States Department of Energy says that many homes send up to a quarter of their heating (and cooling) costs right out the door and windows. That’s because air you pay to heat or cool escapes through poorly sealed windows, doors and other penetration spots.
Addressing air leaks is the first step of a solid winterization strategy for your home. Let Tipmont help you with that and so much more!
Schedule a free Tipmont home energy assessment today!
After a visit of 90 minutes or less, Kevin Carpenter — Tipmont’s certified and trusted energy advisor — can offer you personalized recommendations to save on your energy use.
Kevin will investigate leaks, look for large energy loads you may be unaware of, and gauge how well the air you heat throughout the winter (or cool in the summer) stays in your home.
Schedule your assessment online today or call 800-726-3953 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday to schedule a time.
In the meantime, here are some easy and everyday tips for energy efficiency to consider as winter approaches.
Keep your air vents clear
When large pieces of furniture or other large items are placed in front of vents, they cannot effectively circulate the air in your home. To that same effect, keep interior doors open to allow proper air circulation.
Check your fireplace
If you have a fireplace, be sure to close the damper to prevent cold drafts from counteracting the heat inside.
Use the sun to your advantage
During the day, open blinds, shades and drapes to allow sunlight for natural warmth of your home. At night, close them to preserve insulation.
Turn ceiling fans clockwise
If you haven’t already done so, turn your ceiling fans to run clockwise. Use low speeds to pull cold air up and push warm air down into your living spaces.
Replace your HVAC filters
If you can’t remember when you last did this, it’s probably time. (And it’s a great time to begin keeping a more regular log of when you do it!) Fresh filters help your HVAC system run more smoothly and durably.
