Project is final phase of a Tippecanoe County partnership to connect rural residents
LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Tippecanoe County Commissioners approved today (Monday, Sept. 16) a project that will bring Wintek Powered by Tipmont’s state-of-the-art, fiber-to-the-home broadband service to the town of West Point and surrounding areas.
Facilitated by county commissioners through $1.57 million in federal grant funding, the West Point project represents the final phase of a partnership with Wintek Powered by Tipmont announced in 2022 that will ensure broadband internet access for all Tippecanoe County homes and businesses by 2025. Wintek Powered by Tipmont is a fiber-optic broadband arm of Tipmont, a rural electric membership corporation whose service area includes parts of Tippecanoe County.
“Since 2023, we have proudly introduced rural Tippecanoe County residents to the fastest, most reliable broadband solution available,” said Ron Holcomb, president and CEO of Tipmont. “We’re pleased to bring this service to West Point, a community passed over for too long by other internet service providers whose intentions never came to pass. We look forward to delivering our high-quality service, local support and affordable access to the community’s homes and businesses.”
The Tippecanoe County partnership will make high-speed fiber broadband available by the end of 2025 in the following county areas that previously lacked current or pending broadband solutions:

- Montmorenci & Surrounding (connected)

- State Road 26 W. Rural (Feb. 2025)
- Surrounding Area of Clarks Hill
(Aug. 2025) - Surrounding Area of Stockwell
(Feb. 2025) - West Point & Surrounding (Nov. 2025)

In total, the project will encompass more than 170 miles of fiber and reach 2,205 service locations. The West Point project is slated to span 12.5 miles of fiber and reach 258 service locations.
West Point engineering will begin in June 2025, with estimated service availability in November 2025.
“Through this partnership, Tippecanoe County will be among the few in Indiana to offer this level of broadband access — which is essential to strategic economic development, remote working and learning, and most of all, quality of life,” said Tippecanoe County Commissioner Tom Murtaugh. “The West Point build is the final piece of the puzzle for reliable, high-quality access across our county.”
Wintek Powered by Tipmont fiber internet packages offer speeds from 250 Mbps to 1 Gbps, or 1,000 Mbps. All speeds are symmetrical for upload and download, creating seamless interaction for video conferencing, online learning and more. In addition to being the fastest broadband solution, fiber-optic technology is also future-proof — meaning regular system upgrades do not require replacement of fiber infrastructure. Local customer service is also available seven days a week.
