Nearly 90 years after opening as Tom’s Parkside Deli, the restaurant space near Lafayette’s Columbian Park has been remodeled and resurrected as the Parkside.
The simple name speaks to pub grub that’s both unpretentious and unpredictable. Fresh-cut fries are dusted with a surprisingly smoky seasoning. Parkside inventively combines savory and sweet flavors with a Chipotle Peach Pork Belly Burger and the Cranberry Turkey Melt’s refreshing, day-after-Thanksgiving vibe. You’ll wonder why more restaurants haven’t added fried green pepper rings to their appetizer menu, then realize most places couldn’t retain the pepper’s crisp snap as Parkside has.
Come hungry for the catfish sandwich, cornmeal-breaded and served at tenderloin proportions, or the Reuben, stacked high with thinly sliced corned beef. Among the many burger offerings, the Western is topped with just-saucy-enough pulled pork and a perfectly crunchy onion ring. You can also choose a soup or salad as your side, or even breaded mushrooms or macaroni and cheese.
Amid renewed summer activity at the park and Lafayette Aviators games at nearby Loeb Stadium, the Parkside is ready to again reign supreme as a nestled-away neighborhood pub.
